How to Distress your Jeans


The other day, my friend Sarah and I were talking about distressed jeans, and how we would love to find the perfect pair. Well, I found a great pair but I bought them soon after I gave birth, and now they are too big. So, I decided to make my own “ripped jeans.”

Let me just say that I was never the DIY type of person until recently, because I never had the time with dental school and studying and then work….etc. But this is really easy and it took me about 15 minutes total.  Since this was my first time, I started with an old pair of Gap boyfriend jeans- I didn’t want to use any of my newer or more expensive pairs of jeans.  I found a great tutorial video on the Free People website here. It was actually pretty easy to do, but you have to be REALLY careful not to cut yourself. The only supplies you need are a box cutter and a piece of thick paper or card stock. Here is the after. I think they turned out pretty good! What do you think?

My New favorite drink: Matcha Green Tea Latte Recipe


Happy Friday! Today I want to share my sort of new obsession, which is Matcha Green Tea lattes. I am one of those people that LOVES coffee, not because I need it to stay awake or be alert, but because I love the taste and smell. When I was pregnant, I couldn’t drink coffee for several reasons, so I tried to come up with a substitute. I had heard that green tea powder is really good for you (full of antioxidants), but I wasn’t so sure about the taste. WELL, I looked all over the internet for some ideas, and this is the recipe I fell in love with. It is so easy to make; in a couple of minutes you have a frothy delicious latte for 1/4 of the cost of Starbucks.

You will need:

Matcha Green Tea Powder (I like this one)

Vanilla Almond Milk- or whatever milk you like

Sugar (I use Stevia or Truvia)

A milk frother (I bought this one)

First, pour one cup of vanilla almond milk into a large mug. Microwave the milk for about 1-2 minutes or until it is HOT. Then add a teaspoon of Matcha Tea powder and mix really well until almost all the clumps are gone. If you used unsweetened almond milk, you will probably want to add sugar. I use one packet of Truvia. Then use your handy milk frother to mix it all together and make a nice frothy layer at the top. If you don’t have a milk frother, you can just mix everything in a blender and it will make it frothy.

Preview of Fall 2013 Trends

Hello everyone!

Last week I had a great time at Tootsie’s learning about all of the upcoming trends for this Fall. Fall is definitely my favorite season for fashion, and this season did NOT disappoint. Overall, I would say this Fall you will see a lot of military inspired clothing, menswear looks, rocker chic, and interesting fabrics such as coated denim, lace, colored leather, and velvet.


Other big trends for fall include: ankle length jeans (so you can show off your fabulous shoes), destructed jeans, motif tops (t-shirts with a word or phrase on it), lots of camo prints, black and white, studded details, and denim on denim. So excited! I put together a collection of my favorite current pieces that are hot for Fall. What is your favorite Fall trend?

Friday Favorites


Happy Friday everyone! I recently attended a Fall Trends preview show at Tootsies, and it gave me so much inspiration for upcoming fall fashion. I will share some of those pictures with you this weekend. In the meantime, I wanted to share a collection of some of my favorite items I have found this week. If you follow me on Facebook, you have already heard me raving about the “Layla” headphones. They are so gorgeous, and they have great sound quality and they are super comfortable. Genius! It’s like jewelry on your head. Also, you may already know about my obsession with overalls. I can’t wait to share my overalls look with you guys! Also, I just ordered the Jeffrey Campbell Everly boot in black. I’m sure its going to be a staple in my fall wardrobe. I hope you like this collection….what are some of your favorites?



Paleo Dinners: Havana Beef with Quinoa


Hi Everyone!

Today, I want to share a meal that was inspired by one of my favorite meals at Snap Kitchen. If you don’t have a Snap Kitchen where you live, it’s basically a place you can go to pick up quick, healthy, and usually gluten free ready-made meals. The only problem is that normally, a small meal will run you about $8.75, so I decided to make my own! I usually make a huge amount and freeze what we don’t eat that night in individual freezer bags. This meal is packed with protein, and is really delicious! If you are trying to lose weight, or just want to have a healthy and easy recipe, this one is for you.


1 lb lean ground beef (I used organic beef)
1 small onion diced
1 can black beans- drained
1/4 cup Spanish olives (pitted and chopped)
1 1/2 cup quinoa (I mixed red and white quinoa together)
3 cups vegetable broth or water
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp turmeric
salt/pepper to taste

Directions: In a large pan, saute onions and beef until the beef has browned. Add turmeric, cumin, paprika, and salt/pepper to taste. Add the black beans, olives, and raisins.

In a separate pot, cook the quinoa according to the instructions. The general rule of thumb for quinoa is 1:2 ratio of quinoa to liquid. So for 1 1/2 cups of quinoa, use 3 cups of water or stock. Once the quinoa has cooked, add it to the beef mixture. Mix everything together, and check if you have added enough salt.

Remember: most canned beans, olives, and broths have salt, so you may not need to add very much. I like to serve mine with wedges of lime.




My Favorite Fall Bags

Hi everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was pretty relaxing. Just spent time with family and friends and watched a lot of Arrested Development on Netflix (if you like weird humor, give it a try).

Anyway, I have been thinking of getting a new bag for Fall, and I haven’t quite decided which one yet, so I made a collection of all of my top favorites. You can hover over each one with your mouse to see the price and brand. As you can tell, I am still obsessed with the Phillip Lim Pashli satchel. Since I’m a mom now and I need both hands free, I’m thinking of getting the medium which can be worn as a cross-body as well. Which one is your favorite???
